4MATIC and driveline isolation
Driveline vibration or binding can originate in tires, wheel bearings, axle joints, prop shafts, differentials or transfer-case components. Confirm tire sizes and rolling circumference, then distinguish steering-angle-related binding from speed-related vibration and load-dependent noise. Inspect mounts and joints, review relevant chassis fault data, and avoid assuming a transfer case is defective based on a shudder alone.
Repair decisions and verification
Road-test after repair at the same speed, steering angle and load that reproduced the original symptom.
An inoperative differential lock or drivetrain warning may involve switches, actuators, vacuum or electronic control, depending on model year.
How the problem should be evaluated
Confirm safe operating conditions, inspect switch and actuator behavior and review the applicable drivetrain system.
Why the model and engine matter: Older G-Class driveline architecture differs from newer models.
