Suspension system differences
Air-spring height control and electronically controlled damping serve different functions. A sagging corner suggests air leakage or height-control trouble, while a damping warning may involve a damper, wiring or accelerometer input. Uneven tire wear may originate in alignment, bushings, tire pressure or ride height.
How a technician distinguishes the causes
Record the height at each wheel after parking and during commanded changes when air suspension is fitted. Inspect bags, fittings, compressor, relay, valve block and height sensors as appropriate. For Skyhook or adaptive dampers, scan the chassis controller and test circuits before replacing a shock. Inspect control arms and bushings before alignment.
Repair decisions and verification
After repair, verify ride height and calibrations if specified; road-test for noise and stability and recheck alignment and tire condition.
What owners may notice. A Levante that sits unevenly, cannot change height or displays a suspension warning may have air leakage, a height-sensor problem, compressor performance concerns or a control fault.
How the problem should be diagnosed. Check parked ride height, compressor duty, pressure retention, air lines and relevant chassis fault data. Determine whether a leak has overworked the compressor.
Repair and safety considerations. Do not replace the compressor without checking for the underlying leak.
